Hot on the heels of their success with the X100 (which I reviewed and loved!), Fuji has today officially launched the X10.  Where the X100 looked to redefine large sensor, compact prime lens market with it’s APS-C sensor and 24mm f2.0 lens, the X10 seeks to redefine the premium point and shoot market with a 28-112mm zoom lens and a 12MP 2/3″ sensor.  To be honest it’s caught me a little bit by surprise because we knew about the X100 for many months before it’s launch and this one seems to have come out of the blue apart from a couple of leaks in the previous week.  It seems like a very astute move from Fuji because the X10 has maintained an almost identical look to the x100 but come in about half the price.  Clearly there are many differences and you aren’t getting anything close to the same camera but with it’s retro design that people went crazy for it is a unique camera in the market sector it’s launched itself into.  They have set themselves further apart from the competition with a 2/3″ sensor that is larger than typical higher end point and shoot camera like a Canon S95 which has a 1/1.7″ sensor and also by the inclusion of a manual zoom lens rather than a slow electronic zoom found on all other P&S cameras.  Manual aperture went down very well on the X100 and I think the manual zoom is a great move and it allows you to adjust composition much faster.

I've started recording video as well as writing about videogames
over the last six months. It's been an interesting learning curve
that finally got me to buy a Mac (as well as various other bits of
kit from the likes of Manfrotto, IK Multimedia and Cannon).

After looking at my options, I've realised that the camera on my
iPhone 4S is actually more than up to the job of recording video
interviews on the go. I've mounted it on a carbon fibre three-head Manfrotto
732CY tripod with a Glif adaptor and have a LED light for when conditions are too dark. The
whole setup works a treat.
